Get Ready for Camping with These RV Cleaning Tips

Are you ready for camping season? Some of your camping trips may have been delayed this year due to Covid-19, but as you prepare to head out on some much-needed weekend getaways (finally!), here are some ways you can get ready for camping.

Double Check for Campground or Park Closures

Some parks and campgrounds are still open, but others have closed to help encourage people to follow state and federal guidelines of social distancing. Others are closed to the public but being used as quarantine facilities for healthcare workers and first responders. It is in your best interest to call ahead or check the website of where you plan to stay to make sure they’re still open at this time.

Give Your RV a Good Cleaning

If you’re pulling your RV out of storage and have de-winterized it, you know that you’ll also want to freshen up the interior. That includes the usual sweeping, fresh linens, and cleaning surfaces, but you might need to get creative if disinfectant wipes or sprays are hard to find. You can make your own disinfectant solution, but you need to be careful to use the right ingredients and not mix chemicals together.

Ready for Camping

To make a bleach solution similar to the concentration you’d find in Clorox or Lysol wipes, mix bleach and water in a 1:48 ratio, up to a 1:32 ratio. That means 4 teaspoons (and up to 2 Tablespoons) of bleach for every quart of water.

How to Disinfect Effectively

There are four good steps you need to take in order to disinfect surfaces properly.

  • Pre-clean: wipe with a damp cloth, moistened with warm water and mild soap.
  • Disinfect: spray your bleach solution on surface and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Wipe clean: using a fresh cloth, wipe the residue of your bleach solution away.
  • Rinse: using another clean cloth moistened with just water, wipe and rinse remaining residue from surface.
